The National Economic and Development Authority convened the Development Communication Coordinating Network (DevComNet) composed of more than 100 government information officers to discuss the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022, the National Spatial Strategy, and how to communicate the Plan.
“The DevComNet is certainly a great opportunity for all of us to be united, for our efforts to be coherent, well-coordinated and synergistic,” said Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia in his keynote message.
According to him, the assembly can help the communication officers to integrate the key messages of the PDP in their agencies’ communication and stakeholder engagement efforts.
He also emphasized that the effective communication and engagement, focusing on development goals and concrete actions needed, will be critical in the successful implementation of the country’s plans.
Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon presented an overview of the PDP and highlighted how it translates AmBisyon Natin 2040 and the administration’s 0-10 Socioeconomic Agenda into strategies, policies, and programs, and the Plan’s consistency with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Also, Assistant Secretary Mercedita A. Sombilla gave an overview of the National Spatial Strategy and emphasized that it directly supports inclusive growth through regional agglomeration, connectivity, and vulnerability reduction.
Finally, Director Nerrisa T. Esguerra of the Development Information Staff presented the purpose of and key messages in communicating the Plan, and encouraged the information officers to help promote and disseminate PDP-related information.
The assembly, with the Philippine Information Agency as the secretariat, was held last April 10 at the Cocoon Boutique Hotel in Quezon City.
