Socioeconomic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Emmanuel F. Esguerra discussed the AmBisyon Natin 2040 during the 18th Anniversary of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) on June 27 at the Hive Hotel and Convention Center, Quezon City.
Secretary Esguerra explained that NEDA is trying to create a strong citizen’s buy-in for the vision or Ambisyon Natin 2040 to withstand four political transitions that will happen in the next 24 years.
“We thought that the way to proceed with this is to have a very strong citizen’s buy-in which means that if they know and agree on where we are going, there is a high probability that the vision will come true,” said Esguerra.
NAPC Vice Chairman Ruperto Aleroza, and Department of Agriculture- Philippine Coconut Authority Consultant Edicio Dela Torre both said that to eradicate poverty, there should be equality in the access and control of resources citing that farmers tend to get the smallest portion of the income in the value chain.
NAPC was founded on June 30, 1998 by virtue of Republic Act 8425 or the “Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act,” and is currently headed by Lead Convenor Jose Eliseo M. Rocamora.
